Stephen Hill Remembered
The Homecoming family is extremely sad to announce that our dear friend, Stephen Hill, passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, August 5. Stephen was in the middle of a sound check before a solo concert in Lumberton, North Carolina, when he suffered a massive heart attack that took his life. He was 55 years old.
Stephen has appeared on dozens of Homecoming DVDs and television specials both as a soloist and a group singer. In addition to his participation in Homecoming recordings and a full schedule of solo concerts, Stephen has lent his talent as a session singer to a wide range of recordings by country and gospel greats including Marie Osmond, George Younce, Jake Hess, Jessy Dixon, Dolly Parton, Mark Lowry, and many others.
Stephen was a “gentle giant” with a kind, soft-spoken nature and a tenor voice as versatile as it was beautiful. He had a sincere heart for people and for sharing the hope of Christ with audiences throughout his career. He was dearly loved by his friends, family and the music community.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Kathy, and their children Melody, Miriam and Caleb. Please keep the family in prayer as they cope with this sudden, tragic loss.
*NEW* A Celebration Service honoring the life of Stephen Hill will be held at Grace Church of the Nazarene in Nashville on Monday, August 13 at 3:00 PM. (Grace Church of the Nazarene is located across from The Opry /Opryland Hotel.
Below is one of the last things Stephen posted on his Facebook page. This tenderhearted gentleman will be sorely missed.
i can't even hardly believe this. I'm so sad
God seemed to be getting his choir ready for the great homecoming!
RIP Steven Hill. You will surely be missed.
So sad to hear of his passing
Another Homecoming family member Singin with the Saints. May God comfort the family of Stephen Hill during this difficult time. Absent from the body and present with the Lord.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. [it is...: Heb. it is not]
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
I pray for peace and comfort for Stephen Hill's family and friends. May God's love encompass each of you during your time of grief. He will be missed and never forgotten!
Mr. Hill was at my church in North Carolina when he passed. His last professional song he sang was "It Is Well With My Soul" - how fitting! He had shared a few songs in the a.m. service then we were excited to see in in concert that evening for the whole service. He did a sound check then interacted with some of the congregants who had come early to get a good seat. Just before the service was to start he left the stage and went to the back. We figured he was just getting ready to start. Then we were brought word that he wasnt feeling well and we immediately went into a prayer service for him. I can think of no better way for a saint to be called home, than to be called from the stage God blessed you to perform on!!!
Our prayers go out to his family and the Homecoming family. He will be missed, but as he opened Sunday, O HAPPY DAY! He is rejoicing today with his Father!!!
