We are sad to announce that our dear friend, George Beverly Shea, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 16, after suffering a stroke on Monday. He was 104 years of age.
Mr. Shea was a gospel music treasure who, through many decades traveling with the Billy Graham Crusades, sang in front of more people around the world than perhaps any gospel artist in history. His rich voice will always resound in our memories, as will his positive, gracious spirit. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
“I have lost a dear friend this week, and the gospel music world has lost a legend. Bev modeled what every gospel singer should strive for – a dedicated, well-trained and disciplined life – and he did it with class. You will be missed, Bev!” – Bill Gaither
**New Service Information: A funeral service for George Beverly Shea will be held April 21 at 3 p.m. at Anderson Auditorium in Montreat, N.C. It is open to the public.
