The Power of Music to Heal

The Power of Music to Heal

Ever since David was summoned to play his harp to soothe the agitated spirit of Saul, human beings have used music to heal the mind, the body and emotions.  Through the centuries music has emboldened the fainthearted, brought peace to the fearful, and delivered healing to the brokenhearted.

A constant theme of the letters we have received over forty years of ministry has been the healing power of music. You have told us your stories of how the right song at the right time has derailed plans of suicide, brought rest to bodies and minds ravaged by cancer and chemotherapy, administered grace and forgiveness to the troubled heart, and given clear direction at junctures in the road of life.

Not only personal experience, but also medical research is confirming more and more that music can retune our bodies and minds to restore wholeness. No wonder the psalmist said:

Sing to the Lord a new song!
Come before His presence with singing.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all
 His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases.

Psalms 96:1, 100:2, 103:2,3
